At this stage the heart could be seen beating very clearly, pulsing at 168 bpm. At least the baby will like techno music.
The following images are from our first ultrasound scan:
On 9.14.01 we had more ultrasound pictures taken.
The baby is now at about 17 weeks and is much more clearly defined as these pictures will illustrate.

On January 25th Yvonne's doctor recommended an ultrasound to make sure the baby
was developing properly. Yvonne had been showing signs of preeclampsia and
was on bed-rest. We were thrilled at the idea of seeing the baby so close
to the due date. We wondered if we could videotape it but the paperwork
said no. At the session I asked the technician if we could get images
printed out. She said we could. During the course of the exam we saw
many wonderful views of the baby, including a clear-as-day shot of it's nose and
mouth from the front. She took a picture of this and a dozen other good ones.

Despite our lack of decent images it was quite a marvel to see. You could still see the heart, brain, and various organs. One thing I didn't realize is that the ultrasound machine acts almost like a light source. On seeing the ribs it appeared as if they were lit up from behind and shadows could be seen. Like venetian blinds in a cheesy 80s video.
